To date, candidiasis caused by the Candida albicans species of fungus is the most common cause of fungal infections and is the fourth nosocomial infection agent. It is associated with a mortality rate of 30-50% and more frequently affects the external genital apparatus of women; in fact, more than 75% of women experience a candida infection at least once in their life, and 40-50% of them go through a relapse.

Treatment of Candida infections involves the administration of antifungal drugs, generally azole antifungals. Unfortunately, the continuous use of conventional drugs currently on the market (e.g. miconazole, clotrimazole, itraconazole, etc.) has led to a loss of efficacy due to the onset of the phenomenon of drug resistance by the fungus and its analogues.

For this reason, in recent years, the need to find new and more effective alternative therapeutic strategies has arisen.
Based on this strong demand in the pharmaceutical and clinical fields, our study develops a peptide with a strong antifungal activity, and in particular candidacide, deriving from an analogue of natural origin isolated from the dermal glands of theTemporary Rana .

The peptide is innovative not only because it is effective in eradicating Candida albicans, but also because it has a powerful activity against various bacterial strains, such as Escherichia coli . Furthermore, the absence of toxicity in the considered therapeutic range is defined as a necessary condition for use for therapeutic purposes, in particular, for topical application.
